Socionics and Cattell
(IMPORTANT NEW MATERIAL - we continue our work on validating socionics among psychological disciplines – V. Talanov)
We present in this post correlation matrices of the relationships between socionic indicators and the scales of the Cattell questionnaire, obtained from the first 240 respondents to sociodiagnostic questionnaire 096.
All correlations were obtained on a sample mathematically equalized with respect to its type composition.
| Number of diagnostic questions in the scale | No. | Short name of the Cattell subfactor (scale) | Full information on the scale (number in brackets - Cronbach’s alpha of the scale questions, indicating its internal consistency - according to IPIP data) |

From the final table (its last column), it can be seen that far from all socionic traits are reflected equally well in the Cattell subfactors. While the semantic content of extraversion, irrationality, intuition, judiciousness, logic, yieldingness, and democracy is projected onto the semantic content of the Cattell subfactors quite fully, other socionic traits receive little representation in the Cattell scales, while such socionic traits as merriness-seriousness (which undoubtedly has important semantic content) and tactics-strategy are not reflected in the Cattell scales at all.

We will report the results of the joint factorization of the Cattell scales and socionic indicators in the coming days.

Recall that the 16-factor Cattell questionnaire is, first and foremost, one of psychology’s first attempts to arrive empirically at the construction of a multifactorial structure of personality. Second, it was precisely on the basis of the raw data from this questionnaire that the five factors of the “Big Five” were first obtained. Relating socionic indicators to the scales of the Cattell questionnaire (which is what we are doing here now) – this is the necessary work that must be carried out to validate the socionic description of human personality and to overcome distrust of socionics on the part of psychologists from traditional schools.
