We now proceed to obtaining the socionic profiles of vasopressin.

For this purpose, we will use not its psychological effects (which are not always unambiguous), but its well-studied physiological manifestations.

These include reduced daily water consumption, reduced daily urine output, and faster cessation of bleeding (the latter is caused by vasopressin exerting a vasoconstrictive effect on damaged capillaries – additionally enhanced by platelet aggregation under the action of serotonin released from them at sites of injury)

High vasopressin is the main factor constraining daily water consumption. Acting on vasopressin receptors of renal cells, vasopressin reduces urine output, thereby contributing to the accumulation of fluid in the body and reducing the need to drink. But there are two other factors that also affect daily water consumption. One of them – high dopamine. It promotes increased urinary excretion of table salt from the body (natriuresis), which causes additional salt consumption, and this in turn causes increased thirst and increases water consumption. We are able to account for this factor by constructing a salt-consumption profile. We will subsequently correct the profiles of cluster VP-1 for this dopamine-related factor of salt consumption in order to neutralize the influence of dopamine on the cluster.

Elevated histamine also increases water consumption to some extent. The point here is that high histamine creates a deficiency in the CNS of tryptophan - a serotonin precursor. Therefore, a subject with high histamine unconsciously strives to increase the amount of water in the body (drinks a great deal), because water indirectly contributes to replenishing tryptophan stores and increasing serotonin. This factor is only third in importance, and it is difficult to account for, so when considering cluster VP-1 we will ignore the role of histamine and will not make corrections for it.

This cluster is most directly associated with the concentration of vasopressin in the body’s biological fluids. However, its precise estimation by questionnaires is the least reliable (this is precisely why, in obtaining an integral vasopressin profile, we rely on several different clusters at once)

Having averaged the profiles of the three clusters of the physiological action of vasopressin (VP-1 with correction for salt consumption, VP-2, and VP-3), we finally obtain the mean vasopressin profiles across its three marker clusters. The corresponding final socionic profile of vasopressin can be regarded as definitive; it is shown in the last attached illustration.

As can be seen from this illustration, vasopressin increases the psychic functions Di, Se, and Ti (Di – first and foremost), and decreases a number of other functions (above all Qe and Fe).

At the level of socionic traits, vasopressin substantially increases Declatimity, and following this it also increases Statics, Logic, Sensing, and Decisiveness to some extent.

The results are quite consistent with what is known from the literature about the psychological effects of vasopressin - as a predominantly “male” neurohormone that promotes logic and spatial orientation, and in a number of cases aggressive manifestations as well.

According to the socionic profiles obtained, the highest vasopressin values should on average be observed in the SLE psychotype, and the lowest – in the EIE psychotype.
