On Other Properties of LSI

(not associated with the pack instinct)

Most of these properties are caused by vulnerable Ne against a moderately logical-sensing and introverted-declarative background. They include:

  • Behavioral inflexibility

  • Negative reaction to changes and unexpected events; conservatism in everyday life

  • Striving for cognitive unambiguity (without alternatives, probabilities, or ambiguities)

  • Perfectionism in adherence to fixed standards, namely, standard models of things, arrangements, and behavior

  • A tendency to exercise close control over the present so that it does not depart from a predetermined course

(we will now examine these first five properties)

And tomorrow or the day after, to conclude, we will add an examination of the following properties:

  1. Problems with metaphorical thinking (its excessive weakness)

  2. a desire for symmetrical completeness

  3. inert sequentiality of all processes carried out (with simultaneous difficulty in disengaging and switching)

  4. a complete absence of impulsive traits - a viscous, deliberate, and constantly controlled pedantry of sequential actions

  5. stable and prolonged mental concentration on one thing

  6. resistance to monotony

  7. conformism

  8. the ability to maintain a fixed posture for prolonged periods

  9. perfectionism in small details, with difficulty taking their importance to the whole into account

  10. a tendency toward collecting and systematization

  11. internal emotional constancy

  12. poverty of outward emotional expression – a “poker face” with minimal facial expression

  1. I have difficulty understanding the figurative meaning of jokes - sometimes I feel like saying, could you not express yourself more clearly? 0.90

  2. In my speech, I rarely use metaphorical comparisons of one thing with another (for example, I hardly ever use figurative expressions such as: “understands it as a pig understands oranges”, “you cannot pull a fish out of a pond without effort”, “the color of a sea wave”, “breathes like a steam locomotive”, “transparent sound”, etc.). 0.86

  3. As a rule, it seems to me that I lack current information about the situation and that this is precisely one of the problems. 0.78

  4. I rarely look for deeper meaning in things. 0.78

  5. I sometimes find it difficult to “grasp” a situation emotionally as a whole; I prefer to deal with its elements separately. 0.75

  6. The figurative meaning of proverbs and sayings does not always come to me immediately and quickly (for example, “Hunger is no aunt”, or “Do not get into a sleigh that is not yours”, and especially other proverbs heard for the first time - I sometimes find it difficult to understand quickly what wisdom about life and what general meaning, beyond the direct, concrete one, they contain). 0.74

  7. The overall meaning of a joke I hear does not always come to me instantly. 0.52

  8. I sometimes do not get jokes immediately - only when others have already finished laughing. 0.31

  4. Usually, before a person has even had time to say anything, I already guess what thoughts are in their head. -0.85

  5. The future is always emotionally colored for me; a direct feeling of it and a kind of “automatic understanding” of it are present in my mind at any moment. -0.84

  6. My imagination works like a powerful amplifier: for example, it can notice certain individual minor traits in a person and amplify them into a grotesque caricature. -0.83

  7. I understand hints instantly and catch other people’s thoughts from half a word. -0.80

  8. I easily guess what most people’s opinion on a particular issue will be. -0.78

  9. In my accounts, I often unintentionally and involuntarily fill things in, mixing invention with facts. -0.76

  10. At a fleeting glance at a caricature or narrative picture, I instantly grasp the essence of the intrigue and all the interconnections among the events depicted. -0.75

  11. When describing something in literary form, I often use comparisons (few of my texts are without them). For example: “a Gypsy girl who looks like a broom in her dress”, or “sunset clouds resembling wine stains on a blue tablecloth”, “rare as an unattractive doe”, “she walked, waddling like a duck”, and so on and so forth. -0.74

  12. I often use “vivid” epithets and metaphors in my thoughts or speech. -0.74

This property and the two closely related properties that follow (resistance to monotony and the ability to maintain one motionless posture for a long time) distinguish LSI as the sole, exclusive champion in the socion.

For some occupations, these properties will tend to be a disadvantage (where creative thinking or rapid reactions are required), but for others – an advantage. For example, they are useful in the work of a dentist, jeweler, doorkeeper, sentry on duty, hunter lying in wait, etc.

We continue the topic of LSI’s properties. No, you will not get away from us without exercising your brain! What has been started must always be completed; this is the principle of rational Ti.😀

But, incidentally, this is far from being only about LSI. It is also about ILE being the unsurpassed champion of NONCONFORMISM, and about LSI itself being far from the foremost conformist in the socion, yielding first place to Dostoevsky and Dumas (it is not Ti that contributes to conformism; rather, following Di, Fi and Si actively contribute to it).

It is also about IEE ranking last on the property of “pettiness in details”, and about the property itself being amplified by introverted logic and suppressed by extraverted intuition.

The passion for collecting turns out to be firmly associated with Ti, while Fi and Ne oppose it. That is precisely why LSI, with its strong Ti and weak Ne, turns out to be the most frequent type among collectors.

We will also discuss how it is precisely Ti that ensures a person’s high internal emotional constancy, while Ne, Fe, and Qe disrupt this constancy.

Finally, about jokes. LSI is, of course, among the psychological types that are not particularly fond of or skilled at joking - and we will see confirmation of this in the tables.. Yet first place in a skeptical attitude toward jokes and everything “humorous” belongs, believe it or not, to LII and EII, the types with extraverted intuition as their creative function. By contrast, Dostoevsky’s mirror type, the psychological type IEE (Huxley), turns out to be the socion’s principal joker, standing out sharply from the crowd in this quality.

  22. I often sense a kind of inner protest or disagreement. -0.53

EII, SEI, and LSI share first place in conformism almost equally. The principal nonconformist of the socion, far ahead of all the others, is the psychological type ILE. Di, Fi, and Si contribute to conformism. Opposing it are Qi, which distances itself from other people’s foolishness, and Ne, tireless in its curiosity and innovations.

  3. In any undertaking, I show exceptional patience and meticulousness. 0.90

  4. I am an excellent “finisher” - I like constantly refining the quality of work in its details and bringing familiar techniques to perfection. 0.89

  5. I begin solving problems by gathering and clarifying all the details and particulars. 0.89

  6. I like precision, concreteness, and detail in everything. 0.88

  7. Perhaps I am sometimes tedious in my exactingness and conscientious fulfillment of obligations. 0.88

  8. When carrying out work, I work through all the details sequentially and immediately rather than leaving them for later. 0.87

  9. Any “rough edges” in results, whether my own or others’, irritate me, - everything must be smooth and fully complete, like a billiard ball. 0.86

  10. My work is marked by scrupulous precision; I do not simply take anyone’s word for anything and check everything - both my own work and especially other people’s. 0.86

  11. A minor departure from order can cause me strong indignation. 0.84

  12. I continue until every single thing has been done perfectly. 0.82

  13. In my activities, I personally delve into all the details and never lose sight of minutiae. 0.81

  14. When carrying out someone’s order, I carefully and literally execute every detail and do not overlook a single minor point. 0.80

  15. I prefer detailed classifications in which the objects being sorted are divided into many groups that take subtle details of their properties into account. 0.78

  16. I have (or used to have) a “mania for order” (this is when, for example, a person absolutely needs objects to be arranged on a desk with equal distances between them, or replaces wallpaper because of one almost imperceptible spot somewhere near the top, or gets out of bed at night to rearrange their clothes and shoes, etc.) 0.77

  17. A good model of a phenomenon should be characterized by the distinctness of all its small details. 0.74

  18. A holistic picture of an event or object takes shape for me only after I have gathered many small facts and studied all the individual details. 0.74

  1. I sometimes do work carelessly; I often lack diligence. -0.86

  2. In dangerous and tense situations, I can set an example through my willpower and forcefulness, but in other circumstances I am characteristically disorganized. -0.84

  3. I am impractical in everyday life and sometimes careless about details; I avoid pedantic routine work. -0.83

  4. It is better to manage to cover more varied, broader, and more numerous things than fewer things in greater depth, so I sometimes do things slapdash. -0.79

LSI is the socion’s champion in pettiness over details; its opposite in this quality is IEE. Both forms of logic (and Ti in particular) contribute to tedious attention to minutiae, while both forms of intuition (especially Ne) work against it. Therefore, although LII has introverted logic as its leading function, it is considerably less tedious than not only LSI but even the rational sensing ethical types ESE and ESI.

12.530.41.13.41.16.01.319.212.60.50.81.01.34.74.1
  1. I have always liked systematizing collections and sorting small objects, parts, and facts according to some criterion. 0.96

  2. I greatly enjoy activities involving sorting objects into groups or piles - I often even become excessively absorbed in such activities and spend too long on them. 0.94

  4. As a child, I liked systematizing collections. 0.91

  5. I like arranging, going through, and sorting things - these activities calm me and help me think. 0.88

As can be seen from the table for this property, the basis of the passion for collecting is strong Ti against a background of weak intuition and weak Fi. Someone with strong Fi is not interested in a display of “eternal”, soulless objects. And if Ti is weak, then all the more so, the person will never in their life become a collector; what the hell would they need collecting for? SEE and IEE convincingly demonstrate this through their low scores in the table. Well, perhaps some SEE with an appropriate lifestyle might steal a painting from a museum or private collection - but again, not for themselves, rather for resale.

In Soviet times, I knew an SEE who was very fond of collecting icons in remote villages. But there was not a single icon in his home. He immediately sold them (using the contemptuous word “boards”) to foreigners. He was a freedom-loving man! But, of course, sooner or later he was caught engaging in that trade, which was strictly forbidden at the time. And, literally in a single day, this affair led to his recruitment by the KGB for the rest of his life (one ruble to get in, a hundred to get out). As an agent provocateur, he proved rather mediocre in some respects - he talked too much - but in some operational schemes he was astonishingly brazen.

  18. My humor is usually subtle, constantly playing on nuances - not everyone always understands these subtle hints. -0.05

In this scale, perhaps the issue is not so much a sense of humor as the DESIRE to make jokes oneself. Well, Ti has no such desire - to joke. Joking means disrupting a certain logical order. By contrast, Ne and De contribute to joking. Here, Ne is precisely the component responsible for the sense of humor, while De is the component responsible for the ability to benefit from jokes by using them to establish horizontal connections with other people and groups of people. IEE has strong De and Ne, while its Ti is simultaneously in the toilet. Thus it turns out to be the socion’s principal joker.

-This is another cluster of the pack instinct, which we almost forgot. Di (on the positive side) and Qi with Ne (both functions on the negative side) are important for this property.

The unequivocal champion in this property, with no rivals in the socion – LSI. And here the principal factor is aristocracy rather than rationality. The stronger a particular LSI’s Di, and the weaker its Qi and Ne at the same time, the more strongly its leveling tendency will be expressed. Both in relation to things and in relation to society. In the latter case, this is even dangerous for society.
