LINEAR CORRELATION BETWEEN INTUITIVE AND SENSING, LOGICAL AND ETHICAL ABILITIES, MEASURED IN THEIR PUREST FORM (without using questions from the opposite pole of the trait)

The results of the experiment with questionnaires 097 and 098 (797 respondents in total) show that the negative correlation between Intuition and Sensing, as well as between Logic and Ethics, is quite real and sufficiently large. At the same time, it is nevertheless significantly higher between Intuition and Sensing (because of the deeper antagonism of the mechanisms underlying them).

In the sample balanced by type composition, the correlation between Intuition and Ethics is minimized in magnitude but remains weakly positive. It must be supposed that the weak positive correlation between Intuition and Ethics is objective in nature (probably caused by the shared reliance of their mechanisms, first, on the limbic system, and second – on the right hemisphere, with its predominance of generalization of nervous processes over their selectivity).

The differences between the results in the subsamples of socionics-naive and socionics-experienced respondents are far from significant enough to make it possible to say that the negative correlation between Logic and Ethics is supposedly caused by effects of autosuggestion. No, their mechanisms are indeed partially antagonistic. This is all the more true of the relationship between Intuition and Sensing (the antagonism between them is very pronounced).

P/S The results in the first table were obtained on samples balanced by type composition, and those in the second - on samples not balanced by type composition.

Why are the correlations for questionnaire 097 somewhat higher than for questionnaire 098? Because in questionnaire 097 all ability scales use questions with weighting coefficients, whereas in questionnaire 098 the responses to the questions of the corresponding scales were all summed with the same unit weight. That is, in questionnaire 098 the scales were somewhat coarser and slightly noisier.
