TestMyBrain Letter/Number Switching

Determine your task switching

Everyday life constantly requires switching between tasks and rules. Switching costs time, especially when what is in front of you calls for different responses under the two rules.

In this TestMyBrain test, a cue tells you whether to classify a letter or a number, which then appear together. Put simply, it measures how well you select the right response when two rules compete.

On the following pages, you can determine your task switching by completing a short task. It has to be completed in one sitting.

The results will be provided immediately after you have completed the final trial. Please note that the results you receive can only be reliable to the extent that you work attentively and without help.

This test is part of the validation study for the Quantitative Socionics Inventory. In case of any question, please write an e-mail (contact@quantitativesocionics.org) to the research team.

About this test
Procedure
A cue says LETTER or NUMBER; then a letter and a number appear together and you classify the cued one. On conflict trials the letter and the number call for different responses.
Main outcome
Conflict slowing: extra response time when the letter and the number require different responses.
Also reported
Conflict accuracy cost · Accuracy · Median RT, correct (ms) · Conflict, median RT (ms) · No conflict, median RT (ms) · Conflict, accuracy · No conflict, accuracy · Mean RT, correct (ms) · SD of RT, correct (ms) · TestMyBrain score
Input
Keyboard or touch screen; touch devices are offered a choice at the start.
Study
Your answers are stored anonymously under the same private profile as the Quantitative Socionics Inventory, so that results can be compared across participants.
