TestMyBrain Digit Symbol Matching
Determine your processing speed
Processing speed is how quickly you can carry out simple mental operations, such as matching, comparing, or looking something up. It underlies many more complex abilities, and the digit symbol test of the Wechsler intelligence scales is one of its classic measures.
In this TestMyBrain adaptation, six symbols are each paired with a digit, and for 90 seconds you select the digit that belongs to each symbol as quickly as you can. Put simply, it measures how fast you work when a task is easy.
On the following pages, you can determine your processing speed by completing a short task. It takes about 3 minutes and has to be completed in one sitting.
The results will be provided immediately after you have completed the final trial. Please note that the results you receive can only be reliable to the extent that you work attentively and without help.
This test is part of the validation study for the Quantitative Socionics Inventory. In case of any question, please write an e-mail (contact@quantitativesocionics.org) to the research team.
About this test
- Procedure
- Six symbols are each paired with a digit from 1 to 3. For 90 seconds, a symbol appears and you select its digit as quickly as possible. Practice rounds come first.
- Main outcome
- Median reaction time on correct responses (ms).
- Also reported
- Accuracy · Correct responses · Responses · Mean RT, correct (ms) · SD of RT, correct (ms) · Coefficient of variation of RT · TestMyBrain score
- Input
- Keyboard or touch screen; touch devices are offered a choice at the start.
- Study
- Your answers are stored anonymously under the same private profile as the Quantitative Socionics Inventory, so that results can be compared across participants.
